Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control has waived their fees for shelter pets for the month. I recently went over to the shelter to help with photos of the felines.

This was a first for me photographing cats. It was definitely challenging since I was working solo. As soon as I would open the cage, a few wanted to jump out immediately to explore. Others would or not face the camera, or just stay in their bed. However, most were more than willing to pose and some acted as if they have modeled before (grroowwl).

Without the option of taking them outside, I really relied on the D3 and the 35mm/1.4 at 4000 ISO, to capture the best natural looking images in their temporary homes. Since I was limited in the setting, I really hoped to make a connection between the cat and the viewer by focusing on their incredible eyes and capturing their personality as I interacted with them.

It was a fantastic experience and it was hard not to notice how dedicated the staff was to making sure that all their animals had everything they needed. I am looking forward to going back next Friday to finish up with the cats and get some nice portraits of the pups as well.

Juan used social media to recruit players from different schools in the area to create the club and  several teams who, now have their own jerseys, equipment and member fees. The club has grown and continues to play though Juan has graduated and went on to learn at Northwestern University. Here are some portraits of the founding members.
